Healthy After-school Treats for Kids and Adults

October 3, 2014 By Denise Costello

Laura’s back this week, with a delicious twist on fruit smoothies! — Denise

berriesThe fall weather is fast approaching, but that doesn’t mean I am giving up my morning fresh fruit smoothies! This is one part of my diet that stays consistent, no matter how crazy life gets. My daughter is almost 2-years-old and says “ewww” when I offer her some of my smoothie in the morning. Even though she likes every single ingredient, she won’t eat them pureed in a very noisy blender! When I asked her if she wanted to make homemade popsicles, however, she was all for it! Her favorite color is pink, so our recipes started there. Plus, she loves getting a “treat” for breakfast. Heading to the farmer’s market this weekend? Let your kids pick the fruit!

Check out these special popsicle recipes:

  1. Apple-Raspberry Smoothie Popsicles
  2. Strawberry-Banana Smoothie Popsicles

My diet and exercise program has come to a stand still. And my sugar cravings have returned with a vengeance! When I was following a plan, I was amazed at how much energy I had. It is so easy to get wrapped up in my family’s needs, but I know if I am not feeling 100%, I can’t give 100%.  To get me motivated, I’m developing some fall-inspired vegan recipes that the whole family will love. Stay tuned for some new South American flavors! — Laura
